MOUNT VERNON — Hugs, smiles and expressions of delight were evident when family and friends gathered Friday to celebrate an important milestone in the lives of several special students. Together with teachers and administrators, the guests observed an exit ceremony for Knox County Educational Service Center seniors who have successfully completed graduation requirements.
Special education consultant Connie Hatley served as master of ceremonies for the occasion and wished all the students the best in their future endeavors.
Keynote speaker Steve Short, superintendent of Mount Vernon City Schools, commended the families of the graduates as well as the seniors themselves.
“This didn’t happen by chance. It involved a lot of hard work,” he said. “Now you have the chance to take what you have learned and put it into practice. Celebrate the time you have today and take time to enjoy the people around you.
