MOUNT VERNON — Two people were transported to Knox Community Hospital after a collision at the intersection of Newark Road and Ames Street about 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
A Dodge Ram pickup appeared to have tried to cross Newark Road while traveling west on Ames Street and was hit broadside by a southbound Chevrolet Equinox. The pickup rolled over, ending upside down in the front yard of 901 Newark Road.
Irvin and Ruby Destins have lived at the address for 16 years and said they have seen four accidents at the intersection in that time.
“I thought it was thunder,” Mr. Destins said of the sound of the crash, which he heard from inside the house.
Traffic was backed up south on Newark Road, including a number of trucks and probably caused headaches for workers leaving Jeld-Wen at the end of their shift.
No further information regarding the accident was available at this time.
