CENTERBURG — A fire of undetermined origin destroyed a three-sided pole barn on the Dennis Hord property at 8672 Camp Road Friday afternoon. The alarm was turned in to the Central Ohio Joint Fire District at 1:59 p.m. The 40-by-20-foot barn was reported fully involved. Camp Road runs north and south between Ohio 229 and the New Delaware Road at the very western edge of Knox County.
Lost in the fire was a 2002 Ford pickup truck and an old Case farm tractor that had just been rebuilt. Hord told firefighters there was nothing in the barn that was flammable such as gasoline or propane tanks. The barn was six years old. Hord’s son, Beaux, lives on the property.
COJFD Lt. Dave Miller said since the cause of the fire is undetermined, the State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to the scene.
Mutual aid was provided by Porter-Kingston Township with a water tank truck, Fredericktown with a tanker and grass truck and seven firefighters. Mount Vernon responded with an engine, four firefighters and Chief Chris Menapace. COJFD took its two engines and nine fighters.
