In addition to a National Honor Society cord, Kelly wants to wear a cord from the National Society of High School Scholars, something the guidelines do not permit. Those guidelines are established by the high school senior cabinet, which is comprised of senior class members, a faculty member and an administrator. Students who want an exception to the rules may appeal to the cabinet.

Kelly and two other students who wanted to wear different cords did just that and all three requests were denied by their classmates.
