MOUNT VERNON — “There is a time for everything . . . turn, turn, turn,” said superintendent Steve Larcomb as he addressed the 86 graduating seniors at East Knox High School Friday evening. Quoting Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 and the rock group The Birds, “There is a season for everything — a time to plant and a time to reap,” said Larcomb. “ I hope you will always remember the Bulldog spirit throughout your life. And as you look ahead, always hold strong to the dreams you make. I urge you to go forth today, change lives, and always know that for everything there is a season.”
The 2013 commencement exercises were moved to the high school gymnasium as rain showers and strong winds were honing in on the Howard area. After the members of the class of 2013 marched in to the high school band playing “Pomp and Circumstance,” class treasurer Morgan Groom opened the ceremony with an invocation. Secretary Bridget Dennis and Vice President Nicholas Blanchard led the Pledge of Allegiance, and President Olivia Buckingham gave a welcome address.
Names of those finishing in the top 15 percent of the class were read by Principal Don Sullivan, who then introduced the evening’s featured speakers.
