MOUNT VERNON — At long last, the legal agreements between the city of Mount Vernon, Rio Tinto Corp. and Blight To Bright (BTB) for the clean-up of the old American National Can property is in place. Mayor Richard Mavis said the CleanOhio office has given the go-ahead to find a design engineer to prepare the specifications for the $2.2 million project.

That should mean the project will go out for bids and be under way before October, the mayor said.

Bids opened

Bids were opened and contracts awarded this week on three city Community Development Block Grant Projects.

Low bidder on the reconstruction of Pleasant Street was Canyon Construction of Fredericktown, which bid $520,483.70. The engineer’s estimate on the project was $576,209. The project is to be completed by late August.

Other bids ranged from $587,314 to $633,113.95.

Preconstruction meetings on the three projects will be held next week and then will start as soon as possible.
