BLADENSBURG — The Bladensburg Fire Department was called to a rural residence on Friday when an area homeowner claimed he had blasting caps in his possession. Fire department officials contacted the Columbus Division of Fire bomb squad who responded to the scene and destroyed the caps.

An unnamed member of the bomb squad explained that blasting caps are used to set off explosives. “This is a normal run, nothing out of the ordinary,” he said.

Calls to the fire department seeking additional information were not returned at press time.
