CENTERBURG — Centerburg Memorial Park was a little soggy Thursday evening, but the muggy weather for the Heart of Ohio USA Days festival didn’t dampen the smiles of the contestants and spectators at the 2013 Little Miss Liberty and Little Uncle Sammy “pageant.”
Eight children took part in the contest sponsored by the Heart of Ohio Women’s Club, and worked before the festival to raise money, at a penny a vote.
Michael Wallace, although the lone Little Uncle Sammy contestant, was obviously thrilled to be named the Little Uncle Sammy winner and to be “crowned” with an Uncle Sam hat by last year’s winner Treven Scurlock. He delighted the audience as he took a proud victory lap in front of the stage.
A little more sedate, Jordyn Horlacher accepted her Little Miss Liberty tiara with style and grace as last year’s Little Miss Liberty Emma Grace Belcher passed the torch to this year’s winner.
Michael, 5, is the son of Casey Sartin and Don Wallace and 5-year-old Jordyn is the daughter of Jason Horlacher and Marinda Rittenhouse.
