MOUNT VERNON — In 2006, Susan Theodorelous of Troy became the first woman to fly a WACO biplane to the National WACO Club’s annual reunion. She’s still flying that plane and, as of Thursday evening, it was the oldest WACO to arrive at the reunion.

It’s a 1930 model RNF which she bought from the person who restored it, Pam Cooley, in 2005.

The plane was originally owned by a pilot in Fort McAvitt, Texas, who flew it all over the state. He sold it in the late 1940s and not long after, it was badly damaged in a landing, Theodorelous said. It sat until Cooley bought and restored it.

After Theodorelous bought the plane, she started researching it to see if she could find a picture of it before it was wrecked. She emailed the library at Fort McAvitt, but did not hear anything until she received an email from a man who said he understood she was looking for him. It was John Winslow, the brother of the original owner.
