MOUNT VERNON — The Kokosing Gap Trail and the Heart of Ohio Trail have joined together to offer Christmas tree chipping this holiday season. The service will be provided Saturday, Jan. 8, from 9 a.m. until noon. Trail volunteers will accept trees at the Knox County Recycling Center on Columbus Road in Mount Vernon.
Although this annual event has been sponsored by the Kokosing Gap Trail for many years, this is the first time the two trail boards have joined forces.
“The Heart of Ohio Trail is making great strides in its development and we are very excited about the two trails working together,” said Randy Cronk, Kokosing Gap Trail president.
Trees will be chipped for a monetary donation with all proceeds going to the Heart of Ohio Trail. Trees need to be clean of wire, plastic and ornaments. Volunteers will be available to remove the tree from vehicles.
The Knox County Recycling Center is a new collection location this year. Cronk encourages people to take note of this new collection site and to drop trees off during the specified time.
