MOUNT VERNON — Sandra Mizer, Knox County Treasurer, announced real estate tax statements for Knox County have been mailed and are due Monday, Jan. 31. Payment can be made in the Knox County Treasurer’s Office, 117 E. High St., Mount Vernon; at any Knox County office of the First-Knox National Bank; or be postmarked by Jan. 31 to avoid a penalty.
The treasurer will not accept credit card payment by phone. Visa/MasterCard will be accepted in the office, by mail and at First-Knox National Bank. Property owners are reminded they are responsible for paying their taxes even if a statement is not received. If anyone fails to receive a statement they should contact the treasurer’s office at 393-6739; also notify the office if there is a change in one’s mailing address.
House Bill 390, effective March 4, 2002, allows an extension of time for payment of real estate and manufactured home taxes for members of the National Guard and reserve components of the Armed Forces of the United States who have been called to active or other duty under Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Noble Eagle or the Governor’s directive of Sept. 29, 2001, or a successor of that directive. Applications are available in the Knox County Treasurer’s Office.
