MOUNT VERNON — The fourth concert of the 2010-11 season for The Community Concert Association of Knox County features Quartetto Gelato, a blend of instruments and vocal music. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Memorial Theater on East High Street in Mount Vernon. This presentation is sponsored in part by the Ariel Corp.
For more than a decade, this ensemble has enchanted audiences and critics worldwide with their exotic blend of musical virtuosity, artistic passion and charismatic anecdotes. This performance may include classical masterworks, operatic arias, tangos and/or gypsy and folk songs. Individuals may already be acquainted with them on NPR or PBS with their DVD called “A Concert in Wine Country” made in 2007.
Playing violin and singing operatic tenor is Peter De Sotto, a Canadian by birth. Accordion fans will delight in Alexander Sevastian’s contributions to this group. Born in Russia, he is now a Canadian citizen. Another Canadian by birth, Elizabeth McLellan commands the cello. Colin Maier, another Canadian by birth, in on oboe. He also plays 11 other instruments.
Each of these talented musicians has years of training and long lists of notable accomplishments. Together they make beautiful music.
As usual, individual tickets may be purchased at the box office when the doors open at 6:30 p.m. Children and students age 21 and under are admitted free when accompanied by a ticket-holding adult.
