MOUNT VERNON — A celebration of poetry and music will be held Tuesday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Sips Coffee House, 101 S. Main St., Mount Vernon.

The featured poets will be Louise Robertson and Paula J. Lambert. Robertson lives in central Ohio with her two children. Widely published in small press journals, Robertson graduated from Oberlin College and earned an MFA from George Mason University. A winner of the Mary Roberts Rinehart award for a poetry manuscript, she has won the Columbus Arts Festival poetry competition twice and performs in poetry slams locally and regionally.

Lambert was born and raised in small-town New England, worked through her life as a sign painter, ice cream maker, carnie, obit writer, tutor and English professor. She has now settled in the Midwest with her partner, William Michael Perkins. Trying out life as a full-time writer, she seeks representation for her completed memoir, “Fruit of My Wound,” and is working on a full-length collection of poems titled “The Sudden Seduction of Gravity.” Lambert has been teaching at the college level for 18 years, including fiction, poetry and performance poetry classes.

The featured musician will be Sarah Goslee Reed, who lives in rural Mount Vernon with her husband and numerous pets. Her recent CD, “It’s About Time” is a tribute to her dad, George Goslee, former principal bassoonist with the Cleveland Orchestra. For many years Goslee Reed has been involved with Camp Nuhop, a camp for children with learning disabilities and behavioral disorders. She still plays classical music in her local symphony orchestra, and has been known to put her education to use by being a microbiologist.

The artists’ work will be available for purchase. An open mic time will follow the evening’s entertainment. The emcee will be Mark Hersman, poet. For more information e-mail Hersman at tutleguy99@aol.com.
