MOUNT VERNON ó The 37th Annual and Final Swim/Walk for Diabetes is scheduled for Sunday, March 6, at 7 p.m. Held at the Mount Vernon YMCA, the Swim offers a chance for entrants to make a difference in the lives of the more than 200,000 Central Ohioans with diabetes.
Since 1975, Central Ohioans have dove into the water to help raise more than $4 million to fund the Central Ohio Diabetes Associationís youth programs, diabetes education, detection and outreach efforts. This marks the 37th and final year that hundreds of swimmers and volunteers will create a wave of support for Central Ohioans with diabetes by joining the Swim/Walk for Diabetes on March 6. This event will take place at more than 30 Central Ohio locations and will benefit the Central Ohio Diabetes Association.
Participants collect pledges and then have a choice of swimming or walking laps. All ages and skill levels are welcome to participate. Those interested in having fun while helping with the fight against diabetes can join by calling the Swim Hotline at 1-800-422-SWIM or by logging onto www.swimfordiabetes.org to register. Registration forms are also available at participating pools, CVS pharmacy and area schools. One-hundred percent of the funds raised by the Central Ohio Diabetes Association Swim/Walk for Diabetes remains in Central Ohio. Individuals may participate in honor of someone they know or love.
