MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Park District will host an Ice Fishing Clinic on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Wolf Run Park. The park pond sports an abundance of bluegill and large mouth bass, which affords excellent fishing opportunity.
Join local ice fishing experts Carl Holmes (Apple Valley Fish Club) and Roger Yarman, and learn tips, techniques and bait types to use to increase catch success. Participants can learn important safety tips to ensure ice fishing trips are safe and dry ventures. A bonfire and wiener sticks will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring some marshmallows or hot dogs for roasting.
It is said that angling in the winter is a wonderful pursuit, and fish are at their absolute best in terms of flavor and firmness this time of year. Participants should dress warmly and should plan to arrive 15 to 20 minutes early to make the one-half mile trek to the pond by 2 p.m.. From the Yauger Road parking lot, take the pond trail at the main trailhead.
