GAMBIER — J. Hayes Batson, president of the Regency Beauty Institute, will discuss the rise of for-profit colleges and their role in higher education on Tuesday, March 1, at 11:10 a.m. in the Kenyon College Olin Auditorium, 103 College Drive.

Batson runs the privately held cosmetology institute that boasts 80 campuses in 20 states and is based in Brooklyn Park, Minn. His topic is “The changing face of higher education: Is there a role for the private sector?” The talk is part of the Burton D. Morgan Foundation Lectureship Series.

In this talk, Batson joins the growing debate in higher education and government circles over the innovation and access provided by for-profit schools and the value and marketability of the education and the degree students earn.

Batson graduated from Kenyon in 1993 with a degree in economics and psychology and earned a master’s in business administration from the University of Chicago in 1999. He became president and chief executive officer of the Regency Beauty Institute in 2001. Batson was previously the president and CEO of EPOTEC, a developer and marketer of behavior-health software.

The Burton D. Morgan Foundation is based in Hudson and is dedicated to encouraging the free enterprise system. The foundation supports a series of lectures at Kenyon during the academic year. The event is free and the public is encouraged to attend. To learn more about Kenyon, visit
