MOUNT VERNON — “International Students React to Life in America” is the topic for the Brown Bag Chat on Wednesday at noon at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 N. Mulberry St.
The presentation will be led by James Singletary, Mount Vernon Nazarene University director of Multicultural Affairs, and several international students from Asia and Europe.
MVNU attracts students from all over the United States and from many foreign countries. For many of them, this is their first time away from home, or in a new culture with a new language. The adjustments are enormous.
The students will tell about their experiences in America — adjusting to the language, to life in small-town Ohio, and to the university. They will share what they’ve learned, and what it has been like for them to be in America and come to terms with various American lifestyles. The presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session and discussion.
The Brown Bag Chats, sponsored by the Adult Services Department of the public library, are free and open to the public. Participants can bring a bag lunch; beverages will be provided.
