MOUNT VERNON — The American Red Cross of Knox County will hold a special two-day Wilderness and Remote First Aid class Saturday and Sunday, designed for Scouts, outdoor enthusiasts, guides, camp counselors and any employee who may find themselves in an emergency situation where help is more than an hour away.
The course is based on the Boy Scouts of America Wilderness First Aid Curriculum and Doctrine Guidelines and has been reviewed and supported by the American Camp Association, American Canoe Association, National Recreation and Park Association and JCC Association. The course also offers enhanced content and topics to meet OSHA’s Best Practices for Workplace First Aid Training Programs.
Major portions of the course featuring more advanced first aid skills will be held outdoors in real-time scenarios. A group of highly trained instructors with diverse outdoor expertise will be able to adapt parts of the course to fit varying environments and needs of the participants.
Course participants must be at least 14 years of age and possess current certification in adult CPR/AED. For additional information or to register, contact the chapter office at 300 N. Mulberry St., Mount Vernon, call 740-397-6300 or visit on web at www.knoxredcross.org.
