MOUNT VERNON The Mount Vernon Amateur Radio Club with the Knox County EMA announce the annual Skywarn Weather Spotter Class will be Monday, March 28, at 6:30 p.m. at the Knox County Memorial Building. The public is invited to attend.

MVARC has been scheduling and sponsoring the skywarn training for more than 25 years. The class is free and prepares participants to recognize and how to report severe weather conditions as they occur. Individuals do not need to be an amateur radio operator to participate in this service. Anyone interested in weather or public safety is encouraged to attend. The class is especially appropriate for law enforcement, firefighters, paramedics, truck drivers, coaches, teachers, bus drivers, recreational and camp counselors, construction workers, farmers, Red Cross volunteers, Citizen Corps and others who have an interest in weather, a cause to be outside on a regular basis, or have a role in public safety when severe weather hits.

The class is conducted by professionals from the National Weather Service. Spotter certification is good for three years and should be renewed regularly.
