MOUNT VERNON — The Mulberry Street United Methodist Church and Faith Lutheran Church choirs will perform the cantata “On a Hill Too Far Away,” on Sunday, April 17, at 7 p.m. at the Mulberry Street UMC, 205 N. Mulberry St., Mount Vernon.
The cantata is influenced heavily by the John Fisher book of the same name. Created by Randy Vader, Jay Rouse and Camp Kirkland, the cantata contains narration, original choral and ensemble works, as well as arrangements of several familiar hymns to highlight and dramatize the narration of whose message is “the cross cannot be denied.”
Choirs of both church have been preparing throughout the Lenten season. Participating in the program are Warren Outhwaite, pastor of Mulberry Street UMC; and Mark Wildermuth, pastor of Faith Lutheran. Soloists are Elizabeth Baskovich-Barrett, music director of Mulberry Street UMC; and Shawn Barrett, Praise Team leader of Mulberry Street UMC. Directing the cantata is Theresa Dunnavant, choir director of Faith Lutheran.
There will be no admission charge or offering taken, but a free-will donation can be made. The public is invited to attend.
