MOUNT VERNON — The Community Concert Association of Knox County announces the sixth concert of its 2010-11 season. Dallas Brass will perform on Sunday, April 17, at 3 p.m. at the Memorial Theater in Mount Vernon. This program will be sponsored in part by First-Knox National Bank.
As an added feature for this final concert of the season, a short video will be shown of next year’s scheduled performers.
Letters and Season Membership Applications were mailed by April 1 to current members. Non-members will have the same opportunity to pick up membership brochures and/or join at this concert for the “before June savings” on next season’s membership price.
Since its founding in 1983 by Michael Levine, the Dallas Brass has become one of America’s foremost musical ensembles. The group has established a unique blend of traditional brass instruments including two trumpets, a bass trumpet, a trombone, and a tuba with a full complement of drums and percussion. All this creates a performing entity of extraordinary range and musical challenges. Expect the repertoire to include classical masterpieces, Dixieland, swing, Broadway, Hollywood and patriotic music.
According to Levine, “a Dallas Brass concert is intended for the entire family. Our ideal audience has a range in age from 5 to 95. Our goal is to entertain and enrich by playing great music while showing our audience how much we enjoy what we do.” Dallas Brass has performed with the New York Pops, Cincinnati Pops, and the Philadelphia Pops and have been featured at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. They have toured Europe and the Far East. They have shared the stage with Bob Hope, have appeared on the CBS “Early Show” and you may have heard their music on the television show, “The Young and The Restless.” Additionally, they have performed for Presidents Gerald Ford and George H.W. Bush. This sextet has released six recordings, some of which will be for sale at the concert.
As is the custom at Community Concerts of Knox County, all youngsters age 21 and under are admitted free if accompanied by a ticket-holding adult.
