MOUNT VERNON — The 25th Annual O.O.P.S! 2011 Spring Storytelling Conference, sponsored by the Ohio Order for the Preservation of Storytelling, comes to Mount Vernon on Friday and Saturday.
The conference begins with a reception on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express on Upper Gilchrist Road. On Saturday, the conference opens with registration at 8 a.m. at the First Congregational UCC, 200 N. Main St., and continues all day with workshops and storytelling.
In the evening there is a Storytelling Concert at the church that is open to the public. Featuring Ohio storytellers John Locke and Cristie Merce, and a performance by Baba Jamal Koram. Koram is a storyteller in the African-American Griotic Tradition. The program begins at 6:45 p.m. with an open mic session. There is a charge for the tickets.
