MOUNT VERNON — The Exchange Club of Mount Vernon/Knox County will have its first Child Safety Day on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Riverside Park in Mount Vernon. This day, which is planned to be an annual event, will provide food, information, education and programs offered by local Knox County agencies.

Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis will kick off the event at 11 a.m. by reading a proclamation in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Some activities being offered include: Car seat safety check, child ID badges, snow cones and popcorn, adoptable animals, fire department personnel will be on hand to offer tours of a fire truck and emergency vehicle, police cruiser from Mount Vernon Police Department, fun bouncer and more.

Free lunch will be provided by the Apostolic Christian Church to the first 200 people.

Vendors will include Exchange Club, Station Break, Mental Health America, Knox County Health Department, Mount Vernon Police Department, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Care Net Pregnancy Services, Eagle 93.7, Knox County Animal Shelter, The Children’s Connection and Royal Kids Camp. Anyone interested in becoming a vendor is asked to call Bobby Folden at 397-3841.

The event is free and open to everyone.
