MOUNT VERNON — In recognition of Flag Day on June 14, residents are invited to nominate a Knox County resident or business who properly and regularly displays the flag.
Nominees are to:
•Be a resident or business in Knox County.
•Display the flag on appropriate holidays.
•Take the flag in at dusk or light it properly.
•Fly the flag on a pole or staff so as not to allow it to touch other objects.
•Never show disrespect to the flag.
•Never fly corporate flags or advertising on the same staff.
•Meet other criteria as spelled out in the Federal Flag Code.
Send name and address (and a picture if you can) of the nominee to Proudly We Hail, c/o Karen Conard, 13668 Vincent Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050 by Tuesday, June 7.
A ceremony will also be held on Public Square on June 14 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. A short program is planned with a local bagpiper, Mount Vernon Fire Department’s Honor Guard, and a flag-folding ceremony by local veterans which will include patriotic music.
Free food and beverages will be available. Guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
