GAMBIER — An opportunity to observe a bald eagle soar may become a reality on Sunday through a program sponsored by the Knox County Park District and the Brown Family Environmental Center at Kenyon College. The program begins at 2 p.m. at the Brown Family Environmental Center, 9781 Laymon Road, near Ohio 229, in Gambier.
Starting with an introduction regarding the recent success of eagles in Knox County and Ohio, participants can then view and handle items such as an eagle skull, talon replicas and a flight silhouette. After the introduction, participants will travel a short distance to observe an active eagle nest where a juvenile eagle has been observed this spring. Binoculars will be provided along with powerful spotting scopes.
A few vans will be available for transport, and carpooling to the site is encouraged. Participants should dress for the weather, but the program requires minimal walking. For more information, call 740-392-7275 or visit KnoxCountyParks.org.
