MOUNT VERNON — Interested sophomores from area school districts (including the Clear Fork School District) will have an opportunity to experience technical education on an “up close and personal” basis at the Knox County Career Center on Nov. 18 and 21.
Students can register to visit three programs (30 minute sessions) of their choice. The sessions allow students interested in pursuing technical careers to learn more about the skills required and taught in the specific program areas at the career center.
The Sophomore Visitation Experience is a joint planning venture on behalf of the Knox County Career Center and the following school districts: Centerburg, Clear Fork, Danville, East Knox, Fredericktown and Mount Vernon. Sophomore Visitation has traditionally served as a way to introduce high school students to the technical education alternatives that are available in Knox County.
Parents interested in learning more about the Sophomore Visitation Days and the career center’s program offerings for junior and senior students are invited to contact the guidance counselors at any of the school districts participating in the event. Students who are homeschooled and will meet the credit requirements for junior status next year are welcome to schedule a time to visit as well. Parents may contact Jackie Carpenter in Student Services at 397-5820 for additional information.
If students are interested in enrolling at the career center for the 2012-13 school year, enrollment applications should be submitted to high school guidance counselors prior to March 1. Many of the career center’s 16 technology programs fill quickly, so students who are seriously considering technical education on the high school level should apply a soon as possible.
