MOUNT VERNON — On Saturday, the Mount Vernon Fire Department will collect toys for the Marine’s Toys for Tots Foundation.
Firefighters and paramedics ask that individuals stop by the main fire station, 200 W. Gambier St., between 10 a.m. and noon to drop off monetary donations or new, unwrapped toys. All donations stay within Knox County and benefit individual families with financial difficulties as well as local organizations such as Interchurch Social Services and The Salvation Army.
The Toys for Tots program collects Christmas gifts for children of all ages from newborns to 16 years old. Fire Chief Chris Menapace explained that this year’s need is greater than ever, “Though economic times are affecting everyone. This year we are asking for the support of the community to help give toys to Knox County’s needy children. It you are out and about this Saturday, please think of the less fortunate and stop by our department to make your donation.”
