GAMBIER — If cabin fever gets you down during winter months, the Brown Family Environmental Center at Kenyon College may be able to help. Community members are invited to the BFEC for free Family Adventure Days on the first Saturday of each month.
A new adventure awaits visitors each Saturday between 1 and 5 p.m.: Explore an exhibit, chat with our naturalist, try your hand at a scavenger hunt, and make a craft. Upcoming dates and topics will include:
Dec. 3: Buds & Bark — Go on a brisk hike to see Winter Tree Buds & Bark (2 p.m.). Learn how trees and plants survive winter, or try a tree craft.
Jan. 7: Animal Signs & Tracks — Look for signs and tracks of animals on the trails, or check out our live animals and furs and skulls collection.
Feb. 4: Winter Birds — See some of Ohio’s year-around residents and winter migrants that travel from the arctic to winter in balmy Ohio. Observe birds from inside the center or grab a pair of binoculars and go on a birding hike. Make and take your own bird feeder.
The BFEC is located at 9781 Laymon Road just outside of Gambier. For information contact John Hickenbottom at 427-5055 or hickenbottomj@kenyon.edu. Visit http://bfec.kenyon.edu/ for a full calendar of events.
