MARENGO The newly formed Whetstone Landowners Association will host a Utica shale oil and gas informational meeting Thursday, March 22, at 7 p.m. at Highland High School. Prior to the meeting, a workshop to assist landowners in completing membership agreements will be held at the school. The workshop will begin at 5:30.

The Whetstone Landowners Association is a nonprofit association of principally Morrow County landowners whose mission is to educate, prepare and assist landowners with oil and gas leases; which includes maximizing and protecting landowner interests while benefiting the community. Landowners in the western townships of Knox and northern townships of Delaware are also invited to attend this meeting.

Attendees will learn about the Utica shale resource that is present in central Ohio, how oil and gas is extracted from the shale formation, and the landowner and community benefits to be realized. Protection of the landowner through a properly constructed and negotiated landowner-friendly lease will be stressed.

The strength of the association is derived from a broad base of landowners willing to commit to the tenets of a professionally developed landowner-friendly lease and negotiation process, with final acceptance being determined by each landowner.

Landowners unable to attend this meeting, but who wish to receive information about the Whetstone Landowners Association, may contact Patrick Drouhard, secretary, at pdrouhar@columbus.rr.com for information.

Highland High School is at 6506 Ohio 229, Marengo, approximately 12 miles west of Mount Vernon and 5.6 miles east of the village of Marengo, on Ohio 229.
