GAMBIER — A pair of writers of Western novels will talk about their work and sign copies of their novels Saturday, March 24, at 2 p.m. in the Kenyon College Bookstore.

Phil Dunlap and Larry D. Sweazy are both published by Berkley Books and will be on hand at the Bookstore, 106 Gaskin Ave.

Dunlap, a veteran journalist and freelance writer, is the author of “Cotton’s War” and “Cotton’s Law,” among others. He has also been published by Avalon Books. “There is no literary style more American than the venerable Western,” Dunlap said. “It covers so much territory, so many cultures, and such a vast array of emotions between Yankees, Confederates and Native Americans that a simple description of the Western is nigh unto impossible.”

Sweazy is the author of “The Badger’s Revenge” and “The Rattlesnake Season,” among others. His new mystery novel, “The Devil’s Bone,” is published by Five Star. Sweazy’s novel “The Scorpion Trail” won the 2011 Will Rogers Medallion award for Western fiction. “The Western is a true American genre, but for it to endure, the stories of the westward expansion, and beyond, must be universal and modern,” Sweazy said. The event is free and the public is invited to attend. Call 740-427-5947 to learn more about the event and the bookstore.
