MOUNT VERNON — “Cleaning Nabakov’s House,” by Leslie Daniels, will be the focus of the next adult book discussion Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County. Discussion leader will be Karen Pritchard, director of the Centerburg Public Library.

When a book begins with “the pot led me to the house, the house led me to the book, the book to the lawyer, the lawyer to the whorehouse, the whorehouse to science, and from science I joined the world,” a reader can be assured he or she is in for an entertaining journey.

On the eve of her forties, divorcee Barb Barrett suddenly finds herself living in a house once occupied by famous author Vladimir Nabakov, she finds an unpublished manuscript which may or may not have been written by the former occupant. The possibilities that open up for a rich escape from her ordinary life become the focus of this novel described by many critics as “quirky, laugh-out-loud funny, triumphant, moving and captivating.”

The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided. Participants will be eligible to win a copy of the April adult book discussion, “Lincoln’s Assassins,” by James Swanson and Daniel Weinberg, donated by Friends of the Library.

Contact the main library at 740-392-2665, ext. 243, visit or email for more information.
