MOUNT VERNON – The film magic and story-telling artistry of Martin Scorsese will be featured in a special showing of the Academy Award-winning film “Hugo,” for March Movie Night on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County.

“Hugo,” rated PG, is based on the best-selling novel, “The Invention of Hugo Cabret,” written by Brian Selznick, and is Scorseses’ first foray into the world of 3D family-friendly movies. Scorsese, best known for adult-oriented films like “Goodfellas,” “Taxi Driver” and “Gangs of New York,” said he wanted to produce “Hugo” so his 12-year-old daughter and her friends could see one of his films.

The film features beautiful, sepia-toned shots highlighting the life and times of characters in a 1930s Paris train station and clock tower. Nominated for 11 Academy Awards including Best Picture, the movie includes an entertaining mixture of fictional storytelling and historical-based facts on the works of film pioneer George Mieles, as well as a variety of stellar performances by a talented cast including Ben Kingsley, Christopher Lee, Sacha Baron Cohen and Asa Butterfield.

The movie is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For information, contact the main library at 201 N. Mulberry St., call 740-392-BOOK (2665), email or visit
