GAMBIER — P.F. Kluge, writer-in-residence at Kenyon College, will discuss his new novel, “The Master Blaster,” and read selections at the Kenyon College Bookstore, 106 Gaskin Ave., Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
The free reading and book-signing event takes place on the novel’s day of release by Overlook Press. Praised by the New York Times as “stingingly funny,” the novel takes place on the Pacific Ocean island of Saipan. Kluge served as a Peace Corps volunteer on Saipan and is a frequent visitor. The novel describes a group of island newcomers as they explore the place, which was a violent crossroads during World War II and enjoyed a manufacturing boom in the late 20th century. The book is a “bewitching love letter to an utterly maddening place,” the New York Times said. Kluge is described as a seasoned ironist.
Kluge is also the author of the novels “Eddie and the Cruisers” and “Gone Tomorrow,” among others, and “Alma Mater,” the non-fiction account of a year in the life of Kenyon College.
