MOUNT VERNON — A Celebration of Music and Poetry will take place today from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Sips Coffee House & Deli, 101 S. Main St.

Steve Abbott has been active in central Ohio for over 30 years, and was a founding member of The Poetry Forum, now the state’s longest-running reading series. His poetry has been widely published in journals and anthologies, and he has produced a CD, several broadsides and two chapbooks. With Columbus poets Connie Everett and Rose M. Smith he edited “Cap City Poets,” an anthology of 74 central Ohio poets published in 2008 by Pudding House.

Charlene Fix is a poet, whose work has appeared in numerous publications, including Poetry, The Ohio Review, The Chicago Review, The Manhattan Review and Negative Capability. Fix has received fellowships from both the Greater Columbus Arts Council and the Ohio Arts Council, and has won the 2007 Robert H. Winner Memorial and the 2011 Louis Hammer Memorial awards from the Poetry Society of America. She is a professor in Liberal Arts and chairwoman of English and Philosophy at Columbus College of Art & Design.

Annie La Rue’s music is described as that of a folk/songwriter and spiritual roots. When she is not working on her music, La Rue enjoys journaling, reading, painting, cooking, bird watching. She continues to be inspired to keep new song through the life and beauty around her.

Andy Roberts, poet and guitarist from Columbus, will lead off Open Mic with a few guitar selections.

Artists’ work will be available for purchase. Admission is free.
