MOUNT VERNON — “A Summer Place: The Minority Experience on the West Coast of Michigan” will be the topic of the Brown Bag Chat on Wednesday at noon at the Pubic Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County. This will be the last Brown Bag Chat until June.
Join Kenyon College senior Sarah Bush, American Studies major and leader of the KC to KC (Kenyon College to Knox County) for a trip through a little-known byway of American history in which African-American, Jew, gay/lesbian and other minorities, excluded from the summer fun venues of “mainstream society,” founded their own summer vacation communities — and how these places fared in the wake of advancements in civil rights.
The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For information, contact the main library at 201 N. Mulberry St.; 740-392-2665, ext. 243; email communityrelations@knox.net; or visit www.knox.net.
