MOUNT VERNON — As American troops remain in harm’s way, the economy continues to waiver, and the nation quickly approaches upcoming elections, citizens of the United States are preparing to exercise their freedom to gather, worship and pray. Millions will answer the call to prayer Thursday in observance of the 61st annual National Day of Prayer. The Knox Network of Christian Ministries is hosting a community prayer service Thursday at 7 p.m. on Mount Vernon Public Square. This year’s theme, “One Nation Under God,” is based on Psalm 33:12, which reminds us that “blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.”
The service will be broadcast live on WNZR, 90.9FM, and online at www.wnzr.fm.
Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Music and Ministry team, New Covenant, will provide praise and worship music.
Esteemed author, founder of Turning Point Ministries, and Senior Pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church, Dr. David Jeremiah, will serve as the 2012 honorary chairman of the NDP Task Force and will give the keynote address at the national observance in Washington, D.C.
