FREDERICKTOWN — The churches of Fredericktown will offer prayers for the nation at the gazebo in the village center Thursday at 7 p.m. There will be a public gathering devoted to prayer for the village itself.
Every hour between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., the various congregations will offer prayers for America. As American troops remain in harm’s way, the economy continues to waver and the nation approaches this year’s elections, millions across the country will observe the 61st National Day of Prayer. An act of Congress in 1988 designated the first Thursday of May as the National Day of Prayer. This year’s theme, from the Pledge of Allegiance, is “One Nation Under God.”
Fredericktown’s observance will conclude with the 7 p.m. public service at the Gazebo. During this final hour, prayers will focus on the local community, including its businesses, schools, public services and elected officials.
