MOUNT VERNON — So why is Irish or Celtic music so popular in America today? Is it because of Riverdance or the Three Tenors?
Tonight, the new monthly series, “Music in America” will feature Meg Litteral and the musical congregation known as Pocketful o’Gimmick will explore the origins and differences between Irish and Celtic music, including the regional or county differences from the home country of Ireland. They will demonstrate the music and styles and try to answer that question. For those who like Irish and Celtic music and those interested in why the music has such a profound effect on even non-Irish Americans, you’ll want to visit ThePlace@TheWoodward (111 S. Main Street) this coming Thursday.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and the program starts at 7 p.m. ThePlace@TheWoodward is a first floor facility and so it is wheel chair, walker and stroller accessible. As with the popular Chautauqua and Lyceum series presented by Elixir and the OHC, these are brought to you on a donation basis, so you already have your ticket.
Coming June 7, Noah Shull will discuss and demonstrate delta blues music in America. For more information on these or the Chautauquas and Lyceums, visit www.VisitKnoxOhio.org or call 740-392-6102 or 740-392-3018.
