MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Compost Facility on Thayer Road will remain open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through October.
Beginning Nov. 1, the winter hours for the facility will go into effect. It will be open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through the month of March.
Items not accepted at the facility include tree limbs over 10 inches in diameter, tree trunks, food waste, and treated and/or painted lumber.
Wood chippings and mulch are available to take home. All items must be hand loaded. Mechanical loaders are not permitted.
The Yard Waste and Compost Area is located approximately one-half mile from Ohio 3/U.S. 36, south of Mount Vernon and is operated by the Board of Knox County Commissioners in conjunction with the Delaware, Knox, Marion, Morrow Solid Waste District.
