Centerburg — Remember Drive-In movies or movies on the lawn? The Centerburg Joint Recreation District is bringing back an old tradition with a free Family Movie Night at Memorial Park, Saturday, June 2, at 9 p.m. The park is located at the intersection of Ohio 314 and U.S. 36 just north of Centerburg.
Featured presentations include two old time classic cartoons, and the family favorite, “Wallace and Gromitt Revenge of the Were Rabbit.” The free movies are provided in partnership with the Centerburg Library. The Friends of the Library will be providing snacks and “scratch and sniff” bookmarks for the first 35 youth to attend. Local historian Gloria Parsisson will introduce the program with a very brief introduction about the history of public movies in Centerburg.
“This is a great opportunity for families to enjoy a fun, free activity under the stars in a local park,” said Gary Moore, program consultant for CJRD. “We are excited to provide a wholesome activity, featuring ‘G’ rated movies, that is affordable and that gets families outdoors to the park to enjoy a summer evening.”
“The lawn at the park is a great place for this activity, and Hilliar Township and the library are great cooperating partners in this program,” said Dave Beck, Administrator for CJRD. “The response to this program last year was amazing, so we want to offer it to the community again this summer on the first Saturday evening of June, July and August.”
Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for informal seating. In the event of rain, the movies will be shown in the town hall above the Centerburg Library. The Centerburg Joint Recreation District was created to provide Centerburg area resident’s greater recreation opportunity and variety. The mission of the CJRD is to physically and financially assist in the enhancement of recreational facilities and programs, and also to expand and develop additional recreational facilities and programs in the Centerburg School District.
