MOUNT VERNON — Deb Cowden, M.D., will present her research on the health-related issues of horizontal shale drilling at the Steward’s of the Land meeting Thursday at 6 p.m. at Sips.
Knox County is waiting to see how far west in the Utica shale the industry wants to move based on the return from the well near Utica. If the well produces, it is expected that leases in the area will be acted on very quickly. Citizens should have the opportunity to weigh the different viewpoints and studies and compare potential benefits with potential impacts to human health before we move any further toward shale production in its current form.
Stewards of the land is a grassroots organization built by a group of diverse citizens in and around the Mohican Valley region who are concerned about under-regulated practices of the drilling process which includes hydraulic fracturing.
