MOUNT VERNON — Ann Henkener, Redistricting Specialist for the League of Women Voters of Ohio, will be the featured speaker at the Knox County Democratic Women’s meeting to be held on Monday. The event will be held at the Knox County Educational Service Center, 308 Martinsburg Road in Mount Vernon beginning at 7 p.m.
Henkener will be discussing “Voters First,” the non-partisan coalition led by the League of Women Voters for Ohio. “Voters First” was created to give the people, rather than the politicians, the power to draw congressional and legislative districts by amending the Ohio Constitution to restore voting power to the people. The constitutional amendment would create a non-partisan independent citizens commission responsible for drawing legislative and congressional boundaries in the state.
Henkener received her Juris Doctorate from Capital University Law School and spent over 20 years as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio focusing on health care and public utilities regulations. She has been on the Board of Trustees of the Columbus Metropolitan League of Women Voters and Secretary of the Board since 2003. She currently serves as the League’s representative to participate in discussions with the Ohio legislature concerning redistricting issues.
The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. For more information, visit Knox County Democratic Women’s Facebook page, or www.knoxdwc.org.
