MOUNT VERNON — The classic, “Frankenstein,” by Mary Shelley promises to bring some good, old-fashioned chills to the “Between the Covers” Summer Reading Program adult book discussion Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County.

John Chidester, executive director of the library, will lead a discussion on the champion of horror stories which is often credited as the beginning of the science fiction/horror genre. With numerous versions on film, many may not realize the full depth of emotion, terror and humanity found as the terrifying story behind Dr. Victor Frankenstein’s creation of life from corpses unfolds on each page of the original novel.

The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments, door prizes and entry forms for the Between the Covers Adult Summer Reading Program grand prize drawings will be available. For information, contact the main library at 201 N. Mulberry St.; call 740-392-BOOK (2665), ext. 243; visit; or email
