MOUNT VERNON — The Heritage Centre Association’s August First Friday will be held on Friday, Aug. 3, from 6 to 9 p.m., in downtown Mount Vernon. The event will feature the band Katty Whomp Us, playing a variety of favorites with their unique signature sound.

Come out and meet special guests — the Central Ohio Roller Dolls and the Mount Vernon Players, portraying several historical figures. There will be a number of family-friendly activities, including Sophia’s Petting Zoo, bounce house and balloon sculptor Rex Naylor. A cornhole tournament will be held on the Square at 6 p.m. There is a cost to play; prizes are awarded for first and second place. Sign up at the event.

Goody bags will be given to 25 random registrants for the Cruise-In. There is no fee to participate; door prizes will be awarded. The registration tent will be on the west side of the square.

Food will be provided on the square by Flapper’s Bar & Grille, The High Restaurant, Woolson’s Concessions and Gay Street United Methodist Church. Downtown merchants will be open late for shopping and various art galleries will host receptions.

Award-winning acoustic guitarist Brian Henke will perform in front of Herald’s Appliances and Electronics.

Event goers can also enjoy The Project, featuring Mount Vernon High School students Andrew Clarkson, Ian Clarkson, Johnson Cochran and Taylor Dallas. They will perform at The Place@The Woodward.

The Woodward Opera House will be open for tours from 6 to 8 p.m. Motorcycles are encouraged to come out and park in the 200 block of South Main.

Traffic will be closed around the square and on Main Street south of the square to Ohio Avenue starting at 4:30 p.m. Rain location for the band is The Place@The Woodward. If you have questions, please contact Carrie Crouch, HCA’s downtown manager, at (740) 393-1481.
