JELLOWAY — On Saturday, Stewards of the Land will continue its educational series on deep-well horizontal drilling by sharing a video of the nationally known former mayor of Dish Texas, Calvin Tillman.
The 80-minute video will begin at 9 a.m. at the Jelloway Methodist Church.
Dish, Texas, a town of approximately 200 residents, is located about 35 miles north of Fort Worth in highly-drilled Denton County.
According to NPR.org in a May article, a satellite view of Dish shows \"ranch-style homes and green pastures interspersed with industrial lots filled with gas wells, compressors, storage tanks, and metering stations.\"
In the film, Tillman relates how the industrialization and pollution that accompanied the drilling process affected his small town.
Following the video, questions and comments and information on establishing neighborhood networks will be shared. The meeting the first Saturday in September will feature Dr. Deb Cowden speaking on effects of drilling on air quality and health.
