MOUNT VERNON — Foundation Park will be getting a spruce-up Saturday morning courtesy of local volunteers, the Foundation Park Conservancy, the Knox County Park District, the city of Mount Vernon and the Lowe’s Heroes Program.

Work will begin at 9 a.m. on several projects. Most of the debris from the recent storms has been chipped, and the material will be spread to improve trail surfaces within the park. There will also be some clearing of new trails, and two of the park’s three piers will be repaired and replaced. A general clean-up will also be conducted.

More than 20 Lowe’s employees will be among the volunteers working on the project, as part of the Lowe’s Heroes Program. The program’s motto is “Transforming lives, one community at a time.”

Griffin Insurance will provide T-shirts to the first 60 volunteers on hand, and work will continue throughout the morning. There are directional signs to the 145-acre Foundation Park along Harcourt Road and Columbus Road.
