MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Players are teaming up with the Knox County Airport for an evening of family fun and entertainment as the Players present “The Mount Vernon Players Variety Show.”
The performance Saturday, Aug. 18, is planned to start at 7:30 p.m. in the airport hangar. A freewill offering will be taken for the Mount Vernon Players, and guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair. Last year marked the first time that these organizations teamed up for entertainment, but it was so well received that this year they are returning with a full-blown variety show that will include music, stories, famous living history characters and an Old-Time Radio Show.
Jerry Lewis, chairman of the events committee for the Knox County Airport, stated, “We are always looking for ways to bring families out to the Knox County Airport to see what a great facility we have, and to introduce young people to flying. The Mount Vernon Players did a great job of pulling a show together for us last year and drew a great crowd, so we turned to them again.”
Last year the players drew on members who had performed in Knox County’s Chautauqua Series (Jim and Amy Stoner) to present Paul Lynde, Amelia Earhart and Will Rogers.
Jim Stoner, president of the Mount Vernon Players, said that “some of those characters may show again, but we are drawing from a vast group of talented folks to make it even more diverse and fun for everyone.”
