MOUNT VERNON — The Community Concert Association of Knox County has announced its first program of the 2012-13 season with “Ricky Nelson Remembered,” performed by Ricky Nelson’s twin sons, Matthew and Gunnar.
The correct date is Saturday, Sept. 15, at 7:30 p.m. at the Memorial Theater in Mount Vernon.
Listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the only family in entertainment history with three generations of No. 1 hitmakers, the Nelson family is an American entertainment dynasty. Ricky Nelson was the son of Ozzie and Harriet Nelson of television fame for their family show in the 50’s, “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet.”
America’s original “Teen Idol,” Ricky established himself as one of the most important rock artists of the ’50s and ’60s with over 100 million record sales and three No. 1s of his own. His sons, Matthew and Gunnar, had double platinum success in the early ’90’s with three top 10 singles, four No. 1 MTV videos, five Top Billboard Hits and have sold over 6.5 million albums worldwide.
In Ricky Nelson Remembered, Matthew and Gunnar breathe new life into their father’s songs, “Hello Mary Lou,” “Travelin’ Man,” “Garden Party” and many more. Their harmonies are accompanied by video footage of the Nelson family including interviews from celebrities influenced by their iconic father.
Individual tickets may be purchased at the box office when the doors open at 6:30 p.m. Season tickets for all six concerts are still available. As in the past several years, children and students age 21 and under are admitted free when accompanied by a ticket holding adult.
