MOUNT VERNON — Kiwanis of Mount Vernon, will celebrate 25 years of women in Kiwanis at a noon luncheon meeting Monday at The Alcove.
The club will be reviewing the history of women in Kiwanis. The face of Kiwanis International changed forever in the summer of 1987 when delegates at the 72nd annual convention voted to allow women to join the organization. It was a historic vote that changed everything. Today, 26 percent of the organization’s total membership is comprised of women.
The Kiwanis Club of Mount Vernon is very active in the community. Its projects include sponsorship of the Imagination Library, Coats for Kids, Babe Ruth baseball, student awards and scholarships, Kiwanis cross country invitational only to name a few.
