MOUNT VERNON — Care Net Pregnancy Services will hold its 20th annual Walk For Life fundraising event on Saturday, Sept. 22. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at the Care Net center, 11 Woodlake Trail, off Yauger Road. The 2.3 mile family-friendly walk will begin at 10 a.m.
The goal for this year’s event is 200 sponsored walkers and $42,000. Individuals raising $250 or more in pledges will receive a walk T-shirt. Those who collect $500 in pledges will also receive a hoodie buddy, with a separate pocket to accommodate an MP3 player and ear buds. Those with $1,000 in pledges will receive a T-shirt, hoody buddy and duffle bag. “Individuals do not have to collect money — just pledges,” said Lois Carter, executive director. “Care Net does the rest for you. The walk will be fun for the whole family with balloons, clowns, llamas and grilled hotdogs.”
“Special attention has been given to using sidewalks away from traffic congestion,” said Diane Henwood, development director. “As we walk the block of Woodlake Trail, Coshocton Avenue, Upper Gilchrist and Yauger Road, we will have a water station alongside Allison’s Finer Diner, and a snack station at Real Living Home Team’s office.”
Care Net is celebrating 23 years as a community leader in reaching out in practical ways to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of young women and men experiencing unplanned pregnancies and related issues. The organization served 397 clients through 2,181 visits to the Center in 2011.
Participants will be able to tour the Care Net center, including peer counseling rooms, the ultrasound area, Baby Boutique, educational and volunteer areas and staff offices. The limited OB ultrasounds are provided free of charge by a trained medical staff under the supervision of Medical Director Dr. Dan Smith, D.O., and Dr. John Huddle, D.O., radiologist. This service is offered in addition to all options, education, positive lifestyle incentive programs and caring personal support. All services are free and confidential.
